ROME – Statistics form the Anti-Mafia District Directorate (DDA) have revealed the growth of the capital’s drug market, with the Eternal City being increasingly confirmed as the only large Italian city in which the cycle of drug trafficking operates according to the division of the various 'open' and 'closed' drug marketplaces.

 Recent surveys have identified some 100 marketplaces across the squares of the city which deal with the distribution of drugs with the help of foreigners.

ROME - Delta Air Lines have confirmed that they will invest in Alitalia following months of financial uncertainty for the bankrupt Italian airline.

 Alitalia was forced into administration over two years ago in 2017 when its workers rejected a proposal to reduce the company’s expenditure that involved cutting a number of jobs.

 The Italian government refused to nationalise the carrier, and it has since been in a state of financial limbo.

MILAN – A murder investigation has been opened after the death of Moroccan model Imane Fadil, a key witness against former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi in 2012, after he was accused of paying for sex with an underage prostitute.

 Fadil’s death is suspected to have been caused by a radioactive poison, however Berlusconi has denied ever having met the model who claimed to have attended his “bunga bunga” sex parties.

ROME - Inter won an enthralling derby against arch-rivals AC Milan last week-end to ensure they earned bragging rights and reclaimed third spot in the Serie A. Inter went into the game off the back of some turbulent recent form. Dropped points against Fiorentina and Cagliari had seen lose pace with second-placed Napoli and allow to Milan leapfrog them in the league.

ROME – Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte confirmed the Italian government’s intention to sign a memorandum of understanding with the Chinese government for its Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), the infrastructure project that will include with rail, road and port development.

 “Yes, the memorandum will be signed,” said Conte Friday. “The memorandum is a non-binding framework agreement. It is not an international accord,” he added.
