Dozens arrested in Casamonica crime blitz

ROME – Italian police have made 23 arrests in a crime blitz against powerful Roman criminal organization Casamonica, police sources said on Monday.

Around 150 Carabinieri from the Provincial Command of Rome, with the help of canine units and a helicopter, served 23 precautionary measures issued by Preliminary Investigations Judge (GIP) of the Rome Court.

Among the suspects are members of the Spada and Di Silvio families as well as seven women, believed responsible for extortion, exploitation, fake ownership of goods and drug dealing.

The investigations are a continuation of the “Gramigna” operation, which, last summer, involved 37 members of the Casamonica clan.
