ROME - Air Italy has become the first airline in Europe to provide a non-binary gender option for passengers booking flights, the airline announced Wednesday. Costumers will be able to select M (male), F (female) or X (other) to correspond with gender-neutral passports that are issued by some states, and select Mx at the dropdown menu of titles.

ROME - An investigation into former President of the National Magistrates Association Luca Palamara has revealed a network of contacts in Italy’s High Council of the Judiciary (CSM) that purportedly attempted to, alongside Palamara, influence the upcoming election for Rome’s next Public Prosecutor.

 Reports by Corriere della Sera and La Repubblica indicate that Palamara’s network in the CSM met regularly between May 7 and May 16 in an attempt to influence thesuccession of Rome’s Prosecutor Giuseppe Pignatone who is stepping down after seven years on the job.

VATICAN CITY - Pope Francis called on society to stand by, and never give up on, those in suffering after news broke that Dutch teenager Noa Pothoven had been legally helped to die at her home following years of depression and eating disorders.

 Francis took to Twitter to write: “Euthanasia and assisted suicide are a defeat for everyone. We are reminded not to abandon those who suffer, to never give up, but rather to take care [of them], to love, and to restore hope.”

TURIN - The bodies of a diplomat working at the Bahamas Embassy and a companion of his have both been found in the river Po, in the heart of Piedmont’s capital, police sources have said.

 Alrae Keiorn Ramsey, 29, was found in the river near Turin’s Ponte Isabella shortly after their disappearance was reported, while the body of his friend, Blair Rashad Randy John, was found days later near Piazza Chiaves.

ROME - Prestigious Italian director Lina Wertmüller, who made history in 1977 for being the first woman to be nominated for an Oscar as best director for her film "Seven Beauties" (1975), is amongst the four winners of this year’s honorary Oscars for career achievements, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Monday.

 The 90-year-old artist will have her over six-decade career acknowledged at the 11th annual Governors Awards ceremony of the Academy on Oct. 27 alongside David Lynch, Wes Studi and Geena Davis.
