ROME - Italy’s coalition government have clashed with finance minister Giovanni Tria over possible VAT rises in the coming years, government sources have revealed.

 Italy has come under pressure in recent months for its lack of economic growth, and was chided by EU Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker in March when it transpired that the nation’s GDP was expected to buck European trends and fall 0.2 per cent this coming year.

 This economic stagnation is, in turn, expected to cause yet further problems for Italy’s coalition government and its population.

ROME - The League’s Transport Secretary has been placed under investigation on account of alleged corruption, judicial sources stated on Thursday.

 Armando Siri, who has been in the role since June 2018, is one of nine people to be investigated on account of financial irregularities.

 It is thought that money intended to help pass amendments on wind power legislation has gone missing.

VATICAN CITY - World famous Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg met Pope Francis ahead of a pro-environment student led rally scheduled to take place in Rome’s Piazza Venezia.

 Thunberg was present at the Pontiff’s weekly audience in St Peter’s Square and was spotted holding a sign reading “Join the Climate Strike.” Once his audience finished, Francis went over to the girl and shook her hand.

A dismal picture painted by Italy Interior Minister and party leader Matteo Salvini, as the candidates are known associates and family members of ‘the Capitan’, with some currently under investigation.

PALERMO - Two men accused of being ISIS militants have been arrested in Sicily's capital, official sources reported on Wednesday.

18-year-old Moroccan Ossama Gafhir was heard colluding with his friend, 25-year-old Palermitan Giuseppe Frittitta, following a police force wiretapping investigation. The two young men have been arrested following the request of the prosecutor’s office of Palermo for acts of incitement to terrorism and self-training to committing such acts.

ROME - Juventus were dumped out of the Champions League at the quarter-final stage for the second year running after a rampant Ajax came from a goal down to win 2-1 in Turin.

 The two sides went into the game off the back of a one all draw in Amsterdam a week ago. Juventus had a slight advantage having secured the all-important away goal and had the home crowd to urge them on to the semi-finals.
