ROME - Women in Finance returns once again for its second edition, with the awards ceremony set to take place on March 7 at the Borsa Italiana headquarters in Milan, Corriere della Sera reports.

 Aside from the UK, Italy remains the only country in which this award is promoted, a sign of particular attention towards Italy and Italian women and of the great activism of the British Ambassador to Rome Jill Morris who sought the initiative.

ROME – Mayor of Rome Virginia Raggi has stressed an “Obligation to shelter the homeless,” given the nine deaths caused by the Eternal City’s cold winter nights over the last few weeks, Il Messaggero reports. The mayor is ready to put in place a system that would oblige the homeless to accept municipal assistance, especially when overnight temperatures drop to the point of being life-threatening.

ROME – Italy's hopes for Austrialian Open success took a hit early on Friday morning (CET) as both Andreas Seppi and Thomas Fabbiano were knocked out of the Melbourne Grand Slam in the third round.

 Fabbiano was outmuscled in three sets by Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, while Seppi narrowly lost out to the in-form Frances Tiafoe in a closely-fought five-setter. 

 Tiafoe, who knocked out fifth seed Kevin Anderson in the second round in Melbourne, recovered from a two sets to one down to beat Seppi 6-7, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.

ROME – The government’s two flagship economic measures, the Citizenship Income and Quota 100 pension reforms, have been approved in a cabinet meeting late on Thursday evening.

 The Income measure, aimed at providing a ‘basic wage’ for Italian citizens, will be rolled out from April and will involve 1.3 million families, according to Deputy Prime Minister Luigi Di Maio, the flagbearer for the reform.

 “Anti-couch” measures have reportedly been included in the bill to ensure it cannot be abused, while funds available would range between 780 and 1032 euros per person.

BOLOGNA – Hospital nurses have worked alongside funeral service providers to “sell” recently deceased individuals in two main care facilities, an investigation by the city’s Public Prosecutor’s Office has revealed.

 Two “cartels” of around 30 individuals in Bologna’s ‘Maggiore’ and ‘Sant’Orsola-Malphigi Polyclinic’ hospitals reportedly encouraged family members of the deceased to arrange burial and funeral plans with specific agencies, who then compensated the nurses to the tune of 200 to 350 euros per recommendation.
