DOHA - Kuwait and Oman are now being considered as potential co-hosts for Qatar’s 2022 football World Cup as part of FIFA’s continued efforts to expand the competition to include 48 national teams.

 FIFA have been touting the idea of expanding the World Cup for a number of months now in a move that would bring in substantial extra interest and revenue for the event.

ROME - Shane Harnett’s latest play “Maggie ‘n’ Brigid”, a sharp-witted social commentary and playful exploration of the renascent friendship between two ageing Irish ladies, proved a true success as its première drew to a close to the sound of thunderous laughter and applause at Rome’s Teatro San Genesio.

 Harnett’s original play follows the intertwining later years of his two eponymous characters who, after years of growing apart, rekindle a tender, albeit recurrently irascible, friendship.

POMPEII – A 20-year-old English tourist has been detained by Carabinieri after removing pieces of a mosaic from the Pompeii ruins, police sources said on Monday.

 The woman climbed over a barrier, detached around ten pieces from the mosaic floor of the Domus dell’Ancora, put three in her backpack and then ran away. 

 Caretakers raised the alarm after witnessing the brazen episode, alerting police, who detained the woman before she managed to exit the site.

 Pompeii Archaeological Park began the task of restoring the tiles on Monday.

ROME - Moise Kean stole the headlines once more as his cool finish in the dying minutes of Juventus’ clash against AC Milan saw the Turin outfit move to within a point of the title as their closest rivals all drew.

 Milan came into the clash off the back of a dismal recent run of form. Genaro Gattuso’s men had taken just one point from their previous three Serie A matches and their fourth place, the final Champions League qualifying spot, was very much under pressure.

SAN GIORGIO A CREMANO - Three men accused of gang raping a woman in a lift at a station near Naples have been released and cleared of charges after courts ruled that the victim’s account “was not believable,” judicial sources have revealed.

 The three men, all aged between 18 and 20, were accused of having raped the 24-year-old in a lift at the station of San Giorgio a Cremano on the Circumvesuviana in an ordeal that lasted around an hour.

ROME – German migrant rescue ship Alan Kurdi is currently on course for Italy's Lampedusa island despite repeated warnings from Italy's Interior Minister Matteo Salvini that the migrants would not be allowed into Italy.

 There are thought to be 64 migrants aboard the ship, which was rescued off the coast of Libya by a German vessel belonging to humanitarian group Sea Eye.

 Migrants aboard the ship were refused entry into Italy or Malta on Thursday night in spite of the violent storms that struck Italy's coast Thursday night.
