CATANIA – Three young men, alleged to have gang raped a 19-year-old American woman, have been arrested in this Sicilian port city, police sources said on Tuesday.

 Police identified the three as Roberto Mirabella, 20, Salvatore Castrogiovanni, 19, and Agatino Spampinato, 19, and said they were arrested after one of the men sent a video to his victim.

 The crime took place in a car parked in an isolated waterfront area on March 15, and was captured on the mobile phones of all three men.

 VALLETTA, Malta – A bold plan by Maltese company AX Group to build a tunnel under Malta’s ancient fortress capital is expected to relieve the chronic traffic congestion plaguing the island by providing new ferry services. The project proposes a ferry link from Sliema to Cottonera, with a stop in Valletta, close to the Barrakka lift.

GENOA – Around 50 families have been forced to evacuate their homes as a monster blaze, which broke out at around 11 p.m. last night, devastates the Cogoleta area in the western part of Genoa, emergency workers said on Tuesday.

 Schools have been closed along with the A10 freeway between Varazze, Savona and Arenzano, Genoa.  

 Two houses have been destroyed, mayor of Cologeto Maurizio Cavelli said.

 Displaced residents have gathered at the Don Milani school.

ROME - First international goals from Nicolo Barella and Moise Kean were enough for Italy to see off Finland in their opening match in the Euro 2020 qualifiers.

 Italy came into the match off a dismal run of form. The side were unable to qualify for the 2018 World Cup, had not a competitive home game since 2017, and had scored more than one goal only once in a match in their last 17 fixtures.

POTENZA - The centre-right have made important gains in regional elections as League and Forza Italia backed candidate Vito Bardi won the state seat, while the 5 Star Movement lost around half of their votes.

 Vito Bardi’s victory was announced with almost one hundred ballots boxes still to count as his share of the votes became unassailable, and it marked the first time in 24 years that the election has not been won by a left-wing candidate.
