ROME - Some problems just don’t go away. Five years ago, The Italian Insider reported on the country’s youth unemployment issues. At that time, approximately 46 per cent of young people in Italy were without a job — the highest figure since 1977. Youth unemployment was clearly a problem then. Now, five years later Italy’s economy is weighed down by pervasive youth unemployment.

BARI – When the 9-year old son of a local gangster arrived for his First Communion in a bright red Ferrari, it angered the priest, according to the Corriere della Sera.

His father, who is a mobster from Bari, is currently in prison and was denied permission to attend the service.

That did not stop his son arriving in style around 13:00 on Monday at the Redentore church, in the notorious neighbourhood of Libertà in Bari. A few metres away, the Rai journalist Mariagrazia Mazzola was attacked by the wife of another gangster last year.

PREDAPPIO - Italy’s state-run news outlet RAI has come under fire for broadcasting footage of a neo-fascist commemoration of Benito Mussolini with no contextualisation or condemnation of the leader’s dictatorial rule.

RAI televised over two minutes of footage of a commemorative event to Mussolini in Predappio, in the Emilia-Romagna region, that was attended by circa 300 people.

The broadcast showed far right supporters of the deceased dictator perform the roman salute, shed tears at Mussolini’s crypt, and hark back nostalgically to his rule.

ROME - Atalanta struck twice in the space of 5 second half minutes to see off a spirited Udinese display and jump into fourth place in the Serie A, above both AC Milan and Roma.

The Bergamo side were frustrated for much of the match, Juan Musso in the Udinese net repeatedly denying Atalanta with a string of fine stops.

The home side tallied up an impressive eight shots on target from their 15 in total, but it took until the 81st minute for them to take the lead.
