ROME – An Italian appeal court has reduced the sentences of Salvatore Buzzi and Massimo Carminati, the ringleaders of Rome's “Mafia Capitale” organization, judicial sources reported on Tuesday.

 Rome’s appeal court, held in Rebbibia’s high security prison, has convicted Carminati to 14 years and six months imprisonment and Buzzi to 18 years and four months. These have been reduced from initial sentences of 20 years and 19 years respectively but the court convicted the two of mafia links, contrary to the trial court initial ruling.

MILAN – A vase containing hundreds of golden coins dating to the Roman Empire has been found during private excavation works in Como, official sources said today.

 Alberto Bonsoli, minister for cultural heritage, during a press conference following the discovery said, “this is a major breakthrough, it will make history. We are not yet ready to comprehend it, but this is a message from our ancestors.”

ROME – Interior minister Matteo Salvini has hit back at the UN’s newly appointed High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet for slamming Italy’s treatment of migrants as “inappropriate, unfounded and unjust”, political sources said on Tuesday.

TRIPOLI – A faction of armed rebels has stormed the headquarters of the Libyan National Oil Corporation (Noc) in Tripoli, a local Arab news agency has reported on Monday.

 According to the Arab source, a loud explosion was heard. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack however, according to Dubai based tv Alaan and Dpa news agency, a group of jihadists of the Islamic State may have been the executors. Reports suggest six attackers were killed after a three-hour siege.
