ROME - A swarm of earthquakes struck Vesuvius in the early hours of Monday morning, the latest event in a recent wave of seismic activity on the volcano.

 A light tremor was detected in the crater of the volcano at 00.42 am, measuring 2.4 with an epicentre depth of 1.63 kilometres. It was reported by the Vesuvius Observatory.

 Another tremor was detected at 2.54, measuring 0.2. The director of the Vesuvius Observatory, Francesca Bianco, has insisted that, “all parameters under moderation at the moment do not show any anomalies."

ROME - A magnificent party was held at Villa Wolkonsky to honour St. Andrew’s Day. Dressed tip to toe in kilts and authentic tartans, guests participated in traditional Scottish dances to honour the patron saint of Scotland, St. Andrew.  

 “As the Scots say, ‘partying is something that we do well in Scotland, and if there is one day of the year when we let ourselves go, it is absolutely St Andrew’s Day!’” said British Ambassador Jill Morris as she welcomed guests to dance on the Residence’s polished wooden floor.

ROME - The Minister for Southern Italy, Ms.Barbara Lezzi, met the correspondents of the foreign press in Italy in a full-scale confrontation, in which there was discussions about the economic maneuver, the reform of the pension system, the relations between Italy and the European Union, the government and relationships within the Parliamentary majority. Furthermore, journalists have shown particular interest in the measures for relaunching the South, investments in infrastructure, economic relations between the South and the Mediterranean countries and measures to fight unemployment.

ROME - When it comes to fighting organised crime, Italy has the expertise.

 Roman authorities are currently demolishing the illegally built villas of the Casamonica clan, the mob family who controls parts of Rome and its province. Mayor Virginia Raggi attended the first demolishing. Interior minister Matteo Salvini even operated a bulldozer. Prior to the demolitions, police officers took pictures of a golden cradle, ornate four-posters, marble bathrooms and ebony statues to show the world that Lazio, like Campania, Calabria and Sicily, has its own mafia.

ROME - An informal ceremony was recently held at the headquarters of the Association of Foreign Press in Italy in Rome (ASEI) presenting its new 'fan', a summary of the foreign publications whose correspondents are based in Italy. 

 The new fan is an update of its 1992 edition, has about 240 logos and contains a tribute to imprisoned and harassed journalists in various countries at the base.
