CORINALDO – A 15-year-old boy, believed to be at fault for the use of pepper spray in a nightclub, which caused the deaths of six people, has been arrested for possession of drugs, police sources report on Monday.

CORINALDO – A stampede in a nightclub in the town of Corinaldo in the early hours of Saturday morning left six dead and dozens injured, police sources report.

 Five of the six people who died were between 14 and 16, while the other, a 39-year-old mother of four, had gone to the nightclub with her daughter.

 The panic that lead to the stampede was reportedly caused by pepper spray being fired in the Lanterna Azzurra club, where rapper Sfera Ebbasta was giving a concert to around 1000 people.

NAPLES – Jill Morris, the British Ambassador to Italy, has been welcomed at the Palazzo San Giacomo by the mayor of Naples as part of her visit to the South of Italy this week.

 Luigi de Magistris invited the Ambassador, who was accompanied by the Consul to Naples Pierfranco Valentini, to the municipal offices to engage in discussions about Italian and British relations.

 As part of her visit to Naples, Ms Morris is also attending an event to celebrate 10 years since the foundation of Keylon, a digital healthcare solution company.

PADUA – ‘Il Messaggero di Sant’Antonio’, a monthly publication read by millions across the world, has been forced to close after “unscrupulous management” from monks, Italy’s National Press Federation (FNSI) reports on Friday.

 The FNSI heavily criticised the “unacceptable … conduct” of the magazine, run by the monks of the Basilica of Padua, “even before the closure was announced,” detailing “contractual violations” and a “refusal to show balance sheets.”

ROME - An amendment establishing a bonus-malus system on car registration, that is dependent on CO2 emissions, has been approved by the Italian Budget Committee. It is reportedly a major cause for concern for car manufacturers and dealers alike.

 The amendment, which will be valid until 2021, foresees a registration tax on new cars that varies between 150 and 3,000 euros, and an incentive for hybrid electric cars that varies between 1,500 to 6,000 euros.

ROME - An enormous explosion at a petrol station in Rieti has killed two people and injured 17. According to reports, a fuel tanker containing vast amounts of flammable liquid was offloading fuel when it caught fire. Witnesses claimed the explosion, which occurred less than half an hour after the initial blaze began, was akin to an earthquake.
