VALLETTA – Maltese armed forces boarded the Turkish ship hijacked Wednesday by migrants, returning control to the captain and escorting the vessel to the port of the Maltese capital, Italian media reported on Thursday.
At least four men were arrested – their wrists tied with plastic straps – and loaded into the back of a gray police van. Others migrants disembarked freely, boarding small buses.
Maltese authorities established contact with the captain of the merchant ship El Hiblu 1 when it was around 30 nautical miles from the coast.

CATANIA – A young American woman, allegedly raped by three men in the Sicilian port city of Catania, had sent numerous messages to a friend asking for help during her ordeal but the messages went ignored, police sources said on Wednesday.
The young woman, who had been working as an au pair for three months, is furious with her friend for not coming to her aid, Italian newspaper La Repubblica reported.

Deputy prime minister Matteo Salvini has repeatedly affirmed that Italy’s ports are closed to ships carrying migrants, and that those aboard will not be allowed to disembark onto Italian soil.

VATICAN CITY - Female staff members of the Vatican City’s monthly Donne Chiesa Mondo magazine have resigned en masse in protest against a “climate of distrust and progressive delegitimisation” that has allegedly taken foot in the publication’s parent company, the Osservatore Romano.
Donne Chiesa Mondo, a magazine run entirely by women, covers women in the church and has helped bring to light incidents of sexual abuse and economic exploitation of nuns in the church dating back over 20 years.

ROME - Kenya has repeatedly ignored requests by the Italian government to assist in the search for Silvia Romano, kidnapped last year, as tensions between the two nations continue to grow, judicial sources said.
Romano, a 23-year-old volunteer aid worker working for Africa Milele Onlus, was abucted from gunmen from the village of Chakama, 80 kilometres from Malindi on 20 November 2018 and has not been heard from since, according to the sources quoted by Il Messaggero.
