  LONDON -- Zak Chelli, the current British and Commonwealth Super-Middleweight Champion, with Italian roots will be in action this weekend against mandatory challenger Callum Simpson. 

  The fight will take place in Barnsley, England, the hometown of Simpson, on Saturday 3 Aug. 

  Sky Sports recently compared Chelli to Rocky Balboa. Like the fictional fighter, Chelli has both the tradition of fighting opponents in their hometowns and Italian roots.

  ROME -- A fire has broken out near the Court of Appeal in Rome at around lunchtime according to the fire brigade. 

  The flames, which have created a high volume of smoke visible throughout the Monte Mario area, have been further complicated by the change in wind direction. Police, 10 fire brigade teams, and a helicopter have all been deployed in a bid to control the fire.

  ROME -- A female bear suspected of attacking a hiker in Dro on July 16, has been killed, the province of Trento has said. 

  The decision to cull bear KJ1, was taken by the President of the Autonomous Province of Trentino, Maurizio Fugatti.

  “A team of the Forest Corps went into action in the woods above Padaro di Arco, where the animal was located through the radio collar” the announcement from the Province read.

  ROME -- The Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has met with Chinese President Xi Jinping, in order to launch a three-year economic plan between the two countries. 

  During Meloni’s first trip to China since taking office in 2022, she met with President Xi Jinping as well as Prime Minister Li Qiang to “define the next three years of bilateral cooperation.”

  ROME -- A Russian businessman has had 41 million euros worth of assets seized in Florence, including company shares and real estate, the Finance Police have reported. 

  The operation, led by the Italian Finance Police, was initiated following a request from Kyiv's specialised anti-corruption prosecutor's office in Ukraine. The businessman, who has not been named, is under investigation for corruption of public officials, money laundering, and fraudulent activities against a Ukrainian agricultural company, with alleged damages exceeding 60 million US dollars.

ROME -- Nicolò Martinenghi won the men’s 100 metre breaststroke final in stunning fashion to beat two-time Olympic gold medallist Adam Peaty and claim Italy’s first gold medal of the Paris Olympics.

 
Team GB’s Peaty had gone into the final as favourite, looking to repeat the feat of winning in the final for a third successive games. But with few expecting Martinenghi to be the winning contender, the Italian sealed gold by 0.02 seconds ahead of his British opponent and Nic Fink of the United States.
