Giallorossi win bragging rights in Rome as Juventus slip up away from home

Roma's Pellegrini scored the decisive goal in the Derby della Capitale, his first of the season

ROME – AS Roma conquer the capital as Juventus drop points, and both Milan sides win to put a little bit of pressure on Conte’s Napoli, who play on Monday evening.

The Giallorossi emerged victorious on Sunday from the Derby della Capitale, defeating rivals SS Lazio 1-0 at the Stadio Olimpico, thanks to a first half Lorenzo Pellegrini goal that edged the result in favour of Gasperini’s men in a closely contested derby.

The game also saw two red cards, both for Lazio players. Possession was evenly spread between the two sides, with both teams creating a decent number of chances throught the match. However, it proved to be Roma who were more clinical, and Pellegrini’s goal in the 38th minute was enough to give all three points to his team, lifting them back up to 4th in the table, joint on points with AC Milan and Napoli, who play on Monday. Lazio, however, fall to 13th after a disappointing start to the new campaign.

The shock result of the weekend was for Juventus, who dropped points on the road against 15th places Hellas Verona, who held the current league leaders to a 1-1 draw. Napoli now have the opportunity to leapfrog the team from Turin into first should they win on Monday.

Both Milan sides came away from their respective matches with all three points, with a Christian Pulisic inspired performacne from AC Milan away from home at Udinese leaving them 3-0 victors. The American forward scored a brace and got an assist to help his side ease past their opponents and put them back up towards the top of the table.

Their rivals Inter Milan also won, this time at home at the San Siro, with a 2-1 victory against Sassuolo, who continue their poor start to the season. Inter fans will be happy to see their team register a win after back-to-back defeats, and they stay 10th in the table.

Wins for Atalanta and Cagliari see them move up the table and build some momentum, whilst early high-flyers Cremonese register their second draw in as many games, and lose a little bit of form, dropping to 6th in the table. The newly promoted side remain unbeaten however, with their defence proving stubborn to break down.

Antonio Conte’s Napoli will face 19th placed Pisa on Monday evening, looking for a win to jump them into 1st in the table, and recover from their disappointing trip to Manchester midweek in the Champions League.
