ROME – Police said Friday that they were investigating the mortal wounding of Enrico Capozzi, 37, who was slain the evening prior in Naples during a suspected gangland ambush in the Ponticelli neighbourhood.
The officers of the mobile, general prevention and public rescue intervened around 8:30 p.m. on via Aldo Merola, following a report of a man on the ground who had been hit by gunshots.
The victim was transported to l’Ospedale del Mare, where he was pronounced dead soon after.

ROME - Protests in air travel, local public transport, railways and schools. It was announced Friday that there would be a strike across various sectors across Italy.
From Thursday at 9:00 p.m. workers belonging to C.U.B. Trasporti di R.F.I., who maintain the railways, were taking part in a 24-hour strike.
This came during a period in which intensive works across many tracks are taking place.
In the same sector the workers of Cobas Lavoro Privato and the National Assembly of R.F.I. Maintenance workers were also on strike.

ROME – Sickness has been forbidden in the town of Belcastro in Calabria by Antonio Torchia, the local mayor, citing the lack of adequate healthcare facilities in the area.
‘It’s to provoke thought’ says Sig. Torchia. The closest accessible hospital to the people of Belcastro is 45 km away and, with an aging population, this is a serious problem.
The initiative comes following the opening of a medical station in the town that is only open part-time and dependent on the availability of medical personnel, who are increasingly difficult to recruit.

PALERMO, Sicily – After Dutch painter Antoon Van Dick started work on his portrait of the Madonna del Rosario in the Sicilian capital, he was obliged to flee to Genoa to escape an outbreak of bubonic plague and completed the masterpiece in the northern port city, after which it was shipped back to Sicily. The painting was hung in the baroque Oratory church of the Santissimo Rosario in San Domenico, where it can be admired as part of a winter tour of the constellation of little known artistic gems in the sun-drenched Sicilian capital.

ROME - The body of one two English mountaineers has been found thanks to a cellular tracking device according to the Alpine rescue team.
The body, which had been buried in a layer of snow, had been identified as one of the two by a tracker on his phone.
The pair, Aziz Ziriat, 35 and Samuel Harris,36, who had been exploring the Adamello mountain in Trentino, had not been heard from since Jan. 1.

ROME - Cecilia Sala, who was imprisoned by Iranian authorities three weeks ago on unspecified charges has been released and was returning to Italy on Wednesday, according to an 11:30 am announcement from Palazzo Chigi.
It stated that the plane repatriating Ms. Sala, ‘had departed moments ago from Iran’ and that they thanked ‘both their intelligence and diplomatic channels.’

PARIS - Things are really starting to heat up in this year's Serie A as not even a whisker can be placed between Atalanta, Napoli and Inter Milan. Napoli currently sit at the top of the table with 44 points, with Atalanta three points behind, but having played one less game, and Inter Milan four points behind, but with two extra games in hand compared to Napoli. The way things stand, it will mean that from now until the end of the season every point is crucial, and neither of these teams can afford to lose careless points when their competitors are so hot on their heels.
