Thirty-seven year old man shot dead in Naples in suspected gangland killing

ROME – Police said Friday that they were investigating the mortal wounding of Enrico Capozzi, 37, who was slain the evening prior in Naples during a suspected gangland ambush in the Ponticelli neighbourhood.

The officers of the mobile, general prevention and public rescue intervened around 8:30 p.m. on via Aldo Merola, following a report of a man on the ground who had been hit by gunshots.

The victim was transported to l’Ospedale del Mare, where he was pronounced dead soon after.

According to what has been reported the man had familial ties to the San Camorra Clan and was hit by the perpetrator who then fled on scooter.

The relatives who rushed to be by his side after the incident unleashed chaos on the hospital with demands and scared away the doctors, as alleged by the Nessuno Tocchi Ippocrate association.

A statement announced on social media in real-time read that they ransacked l’Ospedale del Mare following the shooting and that this was the fifth attack on the medical staff for the A.S.L. Napoli alone.

However, Ciro Verdoliva, general director of the local health authority clarified a few hours later that ‘no assault, no harassment or aggression occurred following the ambush last night that cost the life of a man who arrived in a desperate condition at the emergency ward.’

Verdoliva instead highlighted that ‘thanks to the professionalism and presence of the police force the situation had always been under control’.

He reiterated that there was absolutely ‘no aggression, verbal or physical’ towards health workers and no damage to the property.
