Students and the elderly living side by side in new Project Tor Vergata

ROME - Students searching for housing that is easily accessible, at a controlled price and a reasonable distance from the university, could end up in the homes of the elderly at a reduced price in return for keeping them company in a new system launched by Tor Vergata.

The initiative called ‘We Are Better Together’ was born of a collaboration between Rosaria Alvaro, the Vice-Rector of Politics of Social Intervention, Vito Introna, Orientation Officer, Bianca Sulpasso, Internationalisation Officer and Domenico Genovese, Manager of Research, Management of Personnel and Operative Management Systems of Roma Tor Vergata.

What is it? The objective is to build a bridge between students searching for places to rent and citizens able to rent a room at a lower price, with an approach founded upon solidarity, sharing and creating a dialogue between generations, placing students in a familiar context.

At the same time families, couples and the elderly are able to benefit from the economic contribution made by students.

Students can also offer companionship, help with shopping, with tutoring children or assistance with new technology for the elderly.

The project is for the collective good and social development of the community say project leaders.

It is accessible on a dedicated digital platform where students and locals can register and upload all relevant information and availability.

It offers the ability post-pandemic to reconnect all areas of the community and change the social stratosphere, according to the Rector of the university.
