Three-way dead heat at Serie A season mid-point

McTominay celebrates his goal against Fiorentina

PARIS - Things are really starting to heat up in this year's Serie A as not even a whisker can be placed between Atalanta, Napoli and Inter Milan. Napoli currently sit at the top of the table with 44 points, with Atalanta three points behind, but having played one less game, and Inter Milan four points behind, but with two extra games in hand compared to Napoli. The way things stand, it will mean that from now until the end of the season every point is crucial, and neither of these teams can afford to lose careless points when their competitors are so hot on their heels.

In the most recent round of fixtures out of the top three teams only Atalanta dropped points after they drew against Lazio. Dropping points will make not calm any Atalanta supporters, but they should not be too disappointed as the draw was against fourth placed Lazio.

Napoli came away with three points from their outing with Fiorentina. Yet again it was the summer signing, flying scotsman Scott McTominay who was on the score sheet for Napoli, with golden boot contender Romelu Lukaku also getting a goal.

Inter Milan did not play in Serie A this week, but instead will be bitterly disappointed that they lost 3-2 to their main rivals AC Milan in the final of the Supercoppa Italiana. Not the negative momentum shift they would have wanted, but the fans will be praying that their side can put the defeat to one side, and now go full guns blazing to lift the Serie A trophy.
