VATICAN CITY — Pope Francis has bronchitis, the Holy See press office said in a statement.

Due to his respiratory illness the pontiff will operate on Friday and Saturday out of the Santa Marta guesthouse, Francis' Vatican residence.

Usually the pope holds his audiences at the Apostolic Palace — the usual papal living space, which the leader of the Roman Catholic Church turned down for a no-frills room in Casa Santa Marta in 2013.
