FRIULI -- In order to save San Daniele prosciutto ham, orders have been imposed to limit the number of wild boar, potential carriers of swine fever. It has been predicted that there is a necessary cull of 4,000 boar by the end of the year, with plans involving military assistance if necessary.

  ROME -- Following Italy’s new anti-abortion measures which were passed last week, women from both sides have spoken out on the topic which has been at the centre of political debate for days. 

  In a highly charged political and personal speech in the chamber in Montecitorio, MP Gilda Sportiello, of the Five Star Movement, vehemently criticised the new measures introduced by Meloni’s administration.

  ROCCELLA IONICA -- A Spanish sailor was saved by the Coast Guard in an elaborate rescue mission that extended into the early hours of dawn. The sailor began his solo mission on the Greek Island of Crete, on April 11 intending to reach Sicily. However, as days passed without any information from the 12-metre sailing boat, concerns mounted.

  A satellite signal acquired by the Piraeus Rescue Centre in Greece indicated the possible presence of the unit 110 miles (about 200 kilometres) from Capo Spartivento, on the Calabrian coast.
