 ROME -- The Israeli artist and curator, Ruth Patir, has said the Israel pavilion at the 60th Venice Biennale will remain closed until “a ceasefire and hostage release agreement is reached.” The exhibition, which should have opened on Tuesday morning, instead displayed a sign stating the team’s decision, and was guarded by Italian soldiers.

 Patir explained, “As an artist and educator, I firmly object to cultural boycott, but I have a significant difficulty in presenting a project that speaks about the vulnerability of life in a time of unfathomed disregard for it.”

 Adapting Edgar Lee Masters’ 1915 Spoon River Anthology into the English Theatre of Rome’s 90-minute production, which ran for 10 inventive shows produced by Gaby Ford at John Cabot University was, said adapter-director Irina Tsoutos, “just a bit of a job.”

 That seems an understatement.

ROME – The Stellantis car giant has decided to change the name of its new Alfa Romeo Milano SUV to Junior after a squabble with Made in Italy Minister Alfredo Urso who lambasted the former Fiat company for their cheekily choosing an Italian name for a vehicle produced abroad. The new car, produced in a factory in Tychy, Poland, is the first ever Alfa Romeo car to be entirely built outside of Italy.

 ROME — Furore and finger-pointing spread through Italy's medical community after a video of pathologists dancing in front of a corpse, mid-autopsy, to '80s hit Gioca Jouer went viral. 

 In the video, two-dozen odd people follow Claudio Cecchetto's feel-good song's instructions — 'Salutare! Autopstop! Starnuto! Camminare!' — from the head of and the seats in a lecture hall. A corpse partially covered by a white sheet lies on a table at the front of the hall.

 ROME – Football player Evan Ndicka is in a stable condition in hospital after collapsing on the pitch during Udinese vs Roma on Sunday, AS Roma said on social media.

 The Ivorian defender, 24, collapsed at the 70-minute mark at the Bluenergy Arena in Udine, clutching his chest. Medical staff rushed onto the field with a defibrillator, although it was not used. Ndicka was carried off the pitch on a stretcher.

AOSTA - Auriane, a 22-year-old French woman, was found dead in an abandoned church in Italy. Her partner, the main suspect, has been arrested and placed in provisional detention.

 On April 5, the body of a young woman was discovered by a hiker in a ruined church in the Aosta Valley, northern Italy. According to Italian media, it is an abandoned building located in the hamlet of Equilivaz, in the middle of the La Salle woods. The victim had multiple stab wounds to the neck and abdomen.

 FLORENCE - Italian fashion designer Roberto Cavalli, known for his animal-print designs loved by showbusiness stars, has died at the age of 83.

 "The Roberto Cavalli company shares condolences with Mr. Cavalli's family, his legacy remains a constant source of inspiration," Sergio Azzolari, chief executive of Roberto Cavalli, said in a post on Instagram.

 The designer died on Friday at his home in Florence.

 ROME — Two years after Anzio’s government was dissolved for mafia infiltration, Rome’s anti-Mafia prosecutors’ office (DDA) has launched an investigation into the seaside town’s ex-mayor and four members of his administration for an alleged ‘Ndrangheta vote-fixing scheme, Il Fatto Quotidiano reported.
