 ROME – Inter Milan claimed their 20th league title after beating AC Milan in the Derby della Madonnina to seal their first place in Serie A.

 Inter Milan beat AC Milan 1-2 on Monday evening, gaining the three points needed to make it mathematically impossible for any other team to win the league, including AC Milan who are currently in second place. Inter are currently on 86 points, while AC Milan have 69 points with five matches left to play.

BARI - Ten people were arrested in Bari, Rome, Trani and Lecce for having "induced, favoured, exploited, managed and organized the prostitution of three underage girls" police said.

 In the early hours of the morning, an operation coordinated by the Mobile Team of the Police Headquarters in Bari led to the execution of precautionary measures against four women and six men, accused of exploitation of child prostitution.

TURIN - During his appearance at the Salone del Libro book fair in Turin, the  author Salman Rushdie weighed in on the controversy surrounding Italy's Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

 Rushdie suggested that Meloni should demonstrate more maturity and resilience in response to criticism, particularly in light of a recent libel conviction secured by Meloni against Italian writer and journalist Roberto Saviano.

 ROME -- Italian Insider will appeal the verdict in a libel case brought by Bocconi University professor Vicenzo Morabito after the Rome Tribunal ordered Insider Editor John Phillips to pay the litigious academic 5,000 euros in advance civil damages over an article describing Morabito's business interests in Calabria.

PIACENZA- A truck driver lost his life this morning in an accident on the A21 in Piacenza, southbound lane, at the entrance of the Nure service area.

 The vehicle, loaded with paracetamol acid, collided with a car carrying three people. The truck driver died instantly, while the three occupants of the car were intoxicated and transported to the Piacenza hospital along with four others who helped them exit the vehicle.

 Seven individuals in total were affected, with none in life-threatening condition.

SORBOLO MEZZANI - The Carabinieri of Parma intervened in a condominium in Sorbolo Mezzani following an assault against a woman, alerted by a passerby.

 A 54-year-old woman was the victim of a brutal attack by her partner and father of their two adult children.

 The man, a 61-year-old inmate who had been imprisoned for several years in the Parma prison, had been granted semi-liberty with the possibility of leaving for varying periods of time to work and meet loved ones, with the obligation to return and spend the night in prison.

  ROME -- The president of the Liguria Region, Giovanni Toti, has been arrested on charges of corruption and placed under house arrest as part of an investigation from the Genoese Anti-Mafia District Administration, and the Guardia di Finanza. According to sources from the Guardia di Finanza, Toti is staying in their barracks in Lungomare Canepa in Genoa, accompanied by his lawyer Stefano Savi.

  VATICAN CITY -- A priest, dressed in the traditional cassock, was arrested on Sunday morning in the Vatican City after security came across his assortment of illegal weapons. Not content with the usual shield of divine protection, Palkovic defended his actions claiming they were for self-defence. Among his arsenal were a compressed air pistol, two knives, a box cutter, and a screwdriver. The discovery was made by metal detectors at 9 a.m. at the gates used to prefilter visitors to Saint Peter’s Square according to media reports.

 NAPLES – First division Napoli is scheming to acquire some more Georgian players to join the club, Il Mattino of Naples newspaper reported Monday. Georgian virtuoso Khvicha Kvaratskhelia spearheaded Napoli’s victory in the Serie A cup in 2023, earning the nickname “Kvaradona” after Naples’ Argentinian legend Diego Maradona. He is seen as a great investment by club managers who paid a mere 10 million euros for him while today he is worth at least 80 million euros, Il Mattino said.
