Five injured in clash between students and police

ROME -- Clashes between students and police arose on Friday morning at a demonstration protesting the General States of Natality, according to police reports.

The incident took place in response to the General States of Natality, an annual event held in Rome which aims to investigate the decline in the Italian birth rate and propose solutions.

The procession, which was organised by the Aracne Association, left from Piazzale degli Eroi and headed towards the intersection connecting Viale Giulio Cesare and Via Leone IV. The group then diverted its route closer to the Auditorium della Conciliazione, where the General States of Natality was happening.

The protest was then stopped by police sporting riot gear. Five people were injured, and one was arrested. An ambulance also arrived at the scene.
