Woman stabbed to death by husband near Bergamo

ROME – A woman, 49, was stabbed to death by her husband, 45, in Cologno al Serio, Bergamo, police said. This marks the twelfth femicide of the year in Italy, averaging one woman killed every week.

The Nigerian couple had been living in Cologno al Serio for over 10 years, before Osarumwense Aimiose stabbed his wife, Joy Omoragbon, on Thursday at around 2:30 p.m. when they were alone at home. Allegedly an argument had broken out between the couple after lunch. Police had allegedly been called to the house on Tuesday after the two had argued.

Police and ambulance crew arrived on the scene, but the woman could not be saved. Aimiose was arrested by the Treviglio carabinieri and taken to jail, charged with voluntary manslaughter.

The suspect had mental health problems and had previously undergone compulsory health treatment for his mental health in 2014, after causing aggravated injuries to Omoragbon in 2013.

Investigations are ongoing to establish the motive of the crime.
