Pope calls war a 'negation of humanity'

Pope Francis

VATICAN CITY – Pope Francis repeated his call for fighting to end across the globe on Wednesday. The pontiff warned worshippers that war is a ‘negation of humanity’, saying that the ‘logic of hatred and violence can never be justified’.

The pontiff then went on to condemn the current violence ‘in the Middle East, in Palestine and Israel’ as well as the violence in Ukraine. He urged people to not stop praying for peace and implored everyone, especially politicians, to bring an end to all wars. He concluded by saying that the only people who ‘win’ a war are the arms manufacturers.

The worshippers were reminded that Jan 27 is the International Day of Commemoration of Victims of the Holocaust.

In his weekly catechesis address, the pontiff spoke on the theme of avarice, calling it a ‘sickness of the heart’. He warned against believing money could prevent the reality of death and encouraged worshippers to be ‘generous with everyone’ because in the end ‘we must leave everything’.
