Rapist found and arrested for attempted murder after violence against a Naples policewoman.
ROME – Police reported that a Naples policewoman was raped directly outside of the police station on Thursday, and subsequent investigation led to the arrest of a Bangladeshi migrant as the arrested suspect. Police sources on Thursday revealed that the migrant had previous police and immigration files opened on him.
The policewoman reported to medical services that she had no time to react to the rapist following her because he hit her in the head with a rock, and then proceeded to rape her. She also reported on Monday that he had at one point attempted to strangle her.
On Monday, the name of the rapist was released by local media, identifying him as 23-year-old Rubel Matbar. The ambassador to Italy from Bangladesh commented on the matter, “We are waiting for a detailed report regarding the incident from the embassy in Rome, and we will take necessary action if deemed appropriate.”
According to the expatriate community, Matbar migrated to Italy through Libya five years ago, but had his legal papers seized by local police after various misdeeds. Now, his charges are for the rape and attempted murder of the woman, who was released from hospital because of her head injuries on Saturday.
