SIENA - The Teatro dei Rinnovati hosted the Awards Ceremony of the “Siena Awards” on Oct 1 with a number of images selected from thousands of photos submitted by 55,000 photographers from nearly 200 countries.

Well-known representatives from the world of photography and culture took turns on the stage, delivering the prestigious crystal statuette to the winning photographers. This year, Turkish photographer K. Deniz Kalaycı won the third-place award with her photograph "Hug" that exposes the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic in the "Fascinating Faces and Characters" category.

Kalaycı displayed how COVID-19 changed our lives when masks and social distance rules arrived and seeing our loved ones was forbidden. Now in its eighth year, the Siena International Photo Awards (SIPA) is one of the photo contests with the highest international participation. It received nearly 48,000 images from amateur and professional photographers from 156 countries in 2020.

The event is organized by Art Photo Travel, a non-profit association that creates cultural initiatives aimed at promoting and enhancing art, monuments, traditions, cultures and natural beauty from around the world.
