Pope announces appointment of new personal doctor

  VATICAN CITY - The Holy See announced on Wednesday the nomination by Pope Francis of his new personal doctor, Professor Roberto Bernabei. 

  The pontiff’s previous doctor, Dr Fabrizio Soccorsi, died of complications relating to Covid-19 on Jan. 9. The pope attended his funeral on Jan. 26 at Santa Maria Regina della Famiglia, officiated by Cardinal Pietro Parolin.

  Prof. Bernabei is professor of internal medicine and geriatrics at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Rome. He is also Director of the Department of Science of Aging, Neurology, Orthopaedics and the Head and Neck of the Agostino Gemelli Hospital in Rome. 

  He was born in Florence in 1952 and graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Rome.
