Campania Governor investigated for fraud

NAPLES – Governor of Campania Vincenzo De Luca is under investigation for alleged abuse of office and fraud after ‘favouring’ and promoting four traffic policemen to his staff, judicial sources said on Monday.
According to La Repubblica, the ‘secret’ probe was launched following a car incident in Salerno dating back to 2017, in which one of the police officers drove De Luca through a one-way street in the wrong direction, resulting in a collision with a student on a scooter. The 22-year-old motorcyclist was hospitalized, sustaining minor injuries.
According to the Naples Public Prosecutor, De Luca promoted the former driver along with three of his colleagues to secretarial or managerial roles within his staff securing them salary increases, despite their alleged lack of requisite qualifications, the sources said.
It is alleged the governor elevated the officers with the aim of guaranteeing them an extra allowance of 4,600 euros per year.
