Raggi set to sue former waste management CEO

ROME – Rome Mayor Virginia Raggi will likely be suing former head of the city’s trash management company Lorenzo Bagnacani, official sources reported on Friday.
Legal actions come after Italian weekly magazine ‘L’Espresso’ published a series of conversations between the mayor and the former CEO, in which Raggi demands the accounts of the waste company to be manipulated to hide credits from cemetery waste management services.
Bagnacani said he was fired after he refused to give in to the mayor’s intentions, as reported in the wiretaps release by the magazine.
Calls for Raggi’s resignation have come from the League Minister for Regional Affairs Erika Stefani. “Following the confession of a serious crime, in line with the rules of her party we expect her to immediately resign” said Stefani.
League party leader and Interior Minister Matteo Salvini has called for resignation triggering the harsh response of ally and leader of the Five Star Movement Luigi Di Maio.
“There was never any pressure but the simple application of the norms, the balance sheet proposed by Bagnacani broke the norms, and would have guaranteed bonuses to Bagnacani” said Rome’s city council in an official statement on Thursday.
