Silvio Berlusconi investigated for alleged corruption

ROME - Former Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi is currently under investigation for corruption in a case involving Banca Mediolanum.
Berlusconi, currently the leader of Italy’s Forza Italia party, is at the heart of a probe by Italy’s Finance Police into the stakes his company Fininvest hold.
The company was convicted of tax fraud in 2014, and was subsequently ordered to sell shares so as to reduce its 30% ownership of Banca Mediolanum to under 10%.
While this ruling was contested by Fininvest, who won their appeal, this decision is now under scrutiny.
Niccolo Ghedini, Berlusconi’s lawyer, told Reuters that he was confident the case would soon be dropped as it hinged on evidence from a past case against the former prime minister that had failed.
