Lazio ultras in violent clash with police

ROME – A group of armed Lazio ultras attacked police during a club celebration, leaving seven officers injured, Il Fatto Quotidiano reports on Wednesday.
As around 2,500 fans congregated in Piazza della Libertá late on Tuesday night to celebrate Lazio’s 119th anniversary, roughly 300 masked ultras engaged in confrontation with police, throwing glass bottles, paper bombs and rocks at the officers.
The aggressors entered the Piazza from a “neighbouring, dark street,” according to Andrea Cecchini, president of the police union. After enduring the attacks from the ultras, Cecchini continued, the officers took control of the situation by using tear gas and hydrants to disperse the 300-strong group.
The clashes left seven police officers and three ultras needing medical attention.
