Street artist overhauls shopping centre in Rome

ROME – Links between Street Art and urban regeneration will see the Roman street writer BOL paint murals at the Primavera Shopping Centre in Roman suburb Centocelle, a press statement said.

This project aims to unite the underground culture of the Centocelle district with a style inspired by typical traits of street artists - a direct and endearing visual language.

Roman street artist Pietro Maiozzi, known under the pseudonym BOL, alongside his team will work on vintage style murals, depicting traditional Italian street games such as “la campana” and “la dama”.

“The opportunity to use graffiti as a form of painting is important because it represents the culture that is closest to the new generation. Graffiti-writing culture promotes positive values such as sociality, sharing of culture and respect for diversities. This is the form I use to convey positive messages to new generations” said Maiozzi.

BOL will be working on the Primavera’s floor and lift areas in proximity of the centre’s terrace. The new art will complement what has been already been renovated with a “steet style” theme. This will create a climate that reflects the young and dynamic spirit of the Centocelle area. BOL will be working on renovations up until Sept. 27.

An art contest organized with the “Enzo Rossi” art school will see the student’s works exposed at the Primavera centre on Oct.6. 10 students will be given the opportunity to interpret on canvases the theme “Youngsters, my neighbourhood and street art”.
