Globo D'Oro awards for the best Italian films

Villa Medici

ROME - At the award ceremony of the 58th edition of the Globo d'Oro, conferred by the Foreign Press Association at the marvellous Villa Medici, home to the French Academy, the Grand Prize was awarded to the film The Exodus by the young Neapolitan director Ciro Formisano, who co-wrote the screenplay with Angelo Pastore.

The Italian and Foreign Press also reported on all the other winners of the Golden Globes.

The Exodus addresses a situation that many Italian workers have been victims of since 2011, of which 6000 are still involved.

In the plot, Francesca, masterfully interpreted by Daniela Poggi, is an exodata, or one of roughly 390 thousand workers that the pension reform Fornero (named after the Minister who made it) left home waiting for a retirement age raised at the last minute, creating a limbo in which people who had worked for life found themselves without an income and a deserved rest, and thus violating a pact that the State had signed.

Francesca's situation is particularly delicate because she lives alone with a 16-year-old niece who does not understand the economic difficulties in which her grandmother has precipitated and blames her entirely.

When Francesca finds herself asking for alms under the porticoes of Piazza Repubblica, Rome, with her well-dressed clothes and honest smile, the people's reaction to her are the most disparate, and the woman experiences both the shame of the condition and the ambivalent nature of others in front of those in need.

It's a film inspired by a true story, in which the sensitivity of the director and protagonists is well transmitted to viewers. A meritorious film transposition of experiences of our daily life in Italy, afflicted by injustices and disappointments of various kinds.
