Mafiosi target handicapped woman in bar raid

ROME – An investigation is underway after two men, belonging to the Mafiosi Casamonica and Di Silvio families, attacked a handicapped woman and a 39-year-old barman in Via Barzilai.
Although the event occurred on 1 April, prosecutors have since launched an inquiry and are examining acts of violence, threats and damage.
Video footage was also published by La Repubblica on Monday. It shows Antonio Casamonica and his cousin Alfredo Di Silvio entering the bar located in the south-eastern part of the capital and ordering to be served first.
The handicapped woman complains and is subsequently strapped, kicked and punched. They also throw her phone on the floor saying: “If you call the police, we’ll kill you.
The two aggressors are then captured leaving the bar, but return half an hour later to launch a violent attack on the Romanian bartender, who is also the owner of the bar, for not showing them the due respect on “their” territory.
The video has caused a huge public reaction.
The Mayor of Rome, Virginia Raggi, tweeted “#FuoriLaMafiaDaRoma", while the Democratic Party politician, Matteo Orfini, said: "The mafia acts in this way, with violence and brutality. They do not tolerate those who rebel. So when someone has the courage to do so, they must feel that they have the whole city on their side. Rome must not bow down to the Casamonica, the Di Silvio, the Spada."
The current vice-president of the Senate, Marco Minniti, echoed these sentiments saying: "Acts of this type can not go unpunished,"
The Romanian bartender, whose locale was then trashed by the wrongdoers, has since filed a complaint; a courageous gesture that has forced him and his wife to live in fear of the mafia’s revenge.
Given the characters involved in this case, it might be brought to the attention of the DDA (Direzione Distrettuale Antimafia).
