Former forward Robinho found guilty of gang rape

MILAN - Former Milan player and Manchester City forward Robinho has been sentenced to nine years in prison for sexual assault through his participation in a gang rape in 2013. The Court of Milan has found Robinho, a 33 year-old Brazilian, guilty of assaulting an Albanian woman with the aid of five Brazilians after giving her copious amounts to drink, as reported by news sources.
Robinho’s legal team have posted a statement on his Instagram account. “We would like to clarify that he has already defended himself against the accusations, affirming that he did not participate in the episode.”
Robino has pleaded not guilty to the accusations through his lawyer, as he was not present in court, and has the right to two appeals. The sentence will not be carried out until the appeals process has been completed. The other men suspected of taking part in the rape have not been named.
The Court has also ruled that the Algerian woman be given 60,000 euros in compensation for her ordeal.
