Nadine “never important for FAO” says congressman

LIMA—Peruvian congressman, Héctor Becerril, has commented on the resignation of former Peruvian first lady Nadine Heredia from her position as Head of the Geneva Liason Office at the FAO, describing her as “never important” to the organisation.
Becerril warned that the appointment was all part of a strategy to escape Peru.
In a dialogue with Peruvian newspaper, El Comercio, the congressman told the paper “Nadine Heredia and Ollanta Humala have it all calculated.”
“On seeing that it was practically impossible to work for the FAO, she capitalises on this and resigns, saying it’s in order to comply with justice,” said Becerril.
“She wants to gain that, at any moment, they don’t sentence her to pre-trial detention or impede her from leaving the country. For me it’s impunity that Nadine Heredia is looking for.”
Becerril is the legislator of Peru’s Popular Force party, led by Keiko Fujimori, the daughter of former President of Peru Alberto Fujimori.
The congressman affirmed that Nadine’s resignation “finally demonstrates that she was never important for this post, because obviously she never had the experience nor the knowledge necessary.”
“It demonstrates that they gave her a favourable post so she could evade the course of justice, that’s what it was.”
Lastly, Becerril complained about the way the Peruvian judicial authorities have handled the case, “the proof and the elements so that Nadine might face this process in pre-trial detention is more than sufficient. But no, the prosecutors and the judges have become the stupid ones,” he added.
“What are they waiting for to seek pre-trial detention for Nadine Heredia? They wait for her to escape the country. Resigning from the FAO is to avoid that they impede her from leaving the country in order to, at any moment, escape with Ollanta Humala," he told El Comercio.
The Peruvian authorities are currently investigating Nadine for her alleged involvement in a money-laundering scheme, dating back to 2006.
