Renzi rubbishes Raggi over waste management response

Uncollected rubbish

ROME-- Former Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi, insisted Monday that his Democratic Party will take definitive action on the waste management crisis plaguing Rome, much to the indignation of politicians and government officials.

“On Sunday May 14 the Yellow T-Shirts- the symbol of the Democratic Party… will descend on Rome. With the city invaded by rubbish and the incapacity of the administration to provide answers, the Roman democratic party will offer its own ideas on emergency waste management but only after we’ve spent the morning cleaning up the city.”

He went on to accuse Raggi, the Mayor of Rome, for being “incapable” because “she’s already been in power for year,” implying that the waste management crisis is down to her inaction.

Raggi instead blames the past actions of Renzi’s party for the current crisis. She then wrote on Facebook, “the city will return to normality within the week thanks to the 24 hour opening of the Ama rubbish plants and the work of their employees.”

Beppe Grillo, leader of M5S, also weighed in, sarcastically responding to Renzi’s democratic party heroism, “waste management in Rome is MS5’s fault, even though the Democratic Party has been in charge of it with their mafia cronies for years.”

The environmental assessor, Mauro Buschini, confirmed that the region needs “urgent, credible, and efficient measures” because “pie in the sky plans can be exciting, but normal and daily management needs concrete, quick and determined choices.”
