ROME—Serie A’s top goalscorer, Edin Dzeko, scored twice as Roma produced a dominant away performance to beat a hapless A.C Milan 4-1 at the San Siro. Elsewhere, Juventus were held by Torino at home, whilst Lazio smashed seven past Sampdoria to all but clinch Europa League football for next season.

 Roma’s 4-1 victory over A.C Milan means that the Rossoneri are now without a win in four league games, as the 18-time league champions continue to languish in sixth place of the Serie A table. Bosnian striker Dzeko swept one home on 8 minutes to give Roma the perfect start, before heading in a Leandro Paredes cross on 28 minutes to double their lead. Mario Pasalic pulled one back for Milan late in the second half, but their hopes of a comeback were swiftly extinguished when Stephan El Shaarawy restored Roma’s two goal lead against his former club two minutes later. Daniel De Rossi completed the rout as he scored from the penalty spot after Gabriel Paletta was sent off for bringing down Mohammad Salah. The result means Roma maintain their narrow one point advantage over Napoli, who sit in third place.

 Despite the positive result for the Giallorossi, the post-match focus centred on why Roma headcoach, Luciano Spalletti, hadn’t brought on the iconic Francesco Totti for his last game at the San Siro. The questions from the Italian media irritated Spalleti, sparking him to say, “if I could go back in time, I would never have come to coach Roma.”

 Juventus failed to seal the Serie A title as they needed a late Gonzalo Higuaín equaliser to salvage a 1-1 draw at home to a battling 10-man Torino in the Turin derby. The home side dominated the first half, but it was Torino who took the lead when Adem Ljajic curled in a free kick on 52 minutes. The visitor’s task of containing Juventus became more difficult five minutes later, when Afriyie Acquah was given his marching orders after receiving a second yellow card. It looked like Torino were going to snatch all three points, before the clinical Higuaín drove one home deep into stoppage time to break their hearts. Despite the late equaliser, Juventus’ staggering run of 33 consecutive home league victories was brought to an end. Nevertheless, the Bianconeri can seal the title with a win at Roma on Sunday.

 Lazio humbled Sampdoria 7-3 in a ten-goal thriller at the Stadio Olimpico, which all but seals the home side’s bid for Europa League football next season. Keita Balde Diao, Wesley Hoedt, Felipe Anderson, Stefan de Vrij and Ciro Immobile were all on target in the first half, as the home side entered half-time leading 5-1. Senad Lucic added Lazio’s sixth before Immobile scored his second and Lazio’s seventh. Fabio Quagliarella scored two late on in reply for Sampdoria but the goals were nothing more that a consolation for the travelling fans.

 Inter Milan continued their miserable run of form as they lost 1-0 on the road to Genoa. Goran Pandev scored the game’s only goal as Inter have now lost five of their last six league games.

 Napoli kept up the pressure on Roma as they saw off Cagliari 3-1. Belgian strike Dries Mertens continued his fine goalscoring form as he scored twice to boost Napoli’s chances of capturing second place.

 Palermo have been relegated after they could only manage a 1-1 at Chievo.

 Crotone continued to demonstrate their recent resurgence as they scored late to overcome already relegated Pescara. Despite the win they remain four points behind Empoli, after they crucially beat Bologna 3-1 to remain one place above the relegation zone.

 Udinese drew 1-1 with Atalanta, whilst Sassuolo scored two late goals to comback and draw 2-2 at Fiorentina.
