Accusations of police brutality following Maguette autopsy

ROME-- Medical examinations on the body of Maguette Niang, the Senegalese street vendor who died while being chased by the police, have not revealed any signs of a death caused by violence or physical contact.
The forensic scientists at La Sapienza will continue their autopsy in the coming days, even though the preliminary examinations seem to confirm natural causes of death.
Relatives and friends of the 54-year-old are protesting his death, claiming it was the fault of police brutality. They staged a sit-in at the Piazza Santi Apostoli, joined by communist groups, antiracism organisations, and activists fighting for higher representation of North African people, all shouting “we want justice.”
Placards also read “the Minniti decree is a war against the poor,” “get rid of the sheriffs in our city,” and “Maguette fights with us.”
