Rome woman among injured in London attacks

The attack took place in Westminster

LONDON-- A Roman woman was seriously injured in Wednesday's attacks. She arrived in the city on Tuesday, the day before the incident, and is now recovering in hospital. Her identity is yet to be revealed for privacy reasons.

The ambassador for Italy in the United Kingdom confirmed in a live broadcast to Rai1’s Porta a Porta that the woman was being cared for in a different hospital to the other victims, which is another reason for the delay in her identification.

The news reporter, Bruno Vespa, added that the woman was taken to the operating theatre, but that her condition is not grave. According to the early reports from the scene, she was been hit by the car, and then flipped over. In the impact she fractured two vertebrae, her ankle and gained a head injury, though not a serious one. Her partner, who joined her in the city a few hours previously, was slightly injured. He was not admitted to hospital, however, as he soon seemed in a fit state.

The woman was in the area at the moment of the attack. Judging from witness statements, she must have only seen the SUV arriving at the last minute, launching itself full pelt along Westminster Bridge, and managed to move out of the way just in time to avoid being hit head on. In the heat of the moment, given unclear and confused instructions, she was taken to a different hospital from the rest of the victims.

The team of doctors, realising her condition immediately, decided to operate on her fractures straight away, specifically her ankle, as her vertebrae only need a few days of total relaxation to mend.

We are still waiting on the witness statement from her partner, which should reveal exactly what happened to her during the attack.
