Inebriated Brazilians tumble off Colosseum

ROME -- A new hyper-tech warning system is to be installed to counter intrusions and vandalisation of the Colosseum, according to reports Monday, after two Brazilian tourists tried to climb the Flavian amphitheatre and fell off the ancient monument Sunday night.
The Superintendence for Cultural Heritage of Rome are working on the system.
During Sunday night, two Brazilian tourists managed to get over the surrounding fence in an attempt to climb the building. Two graffiti inscriptions have been found on the historic monument Monday afternoon.
The new system should be calibrated so as not to be triggered by the passing of animals, such as cats or seagulls, which roam the Amphitheatre daily.
The two Brazilians, aged 31 and 33, entered the Colosseum in the dead of night, later slipping from a height of four metres. One of the two fractured his pelvis and was taken to hospital.
“It was a stunt. We were drunk,” said the tourists, who recently arrived in the Eternal City for a break. Both were reported to the police.
