New Archbishop of Krakow appointed by Pope

Stanislaw Dziwisz is retiring from the position

 VATICAN CITY -- The ex-Metropolitan Archbishop of Krakow, Stanislaw Dziwisz, has retired from his position for reasons of age, as Pope Francis appointed Marek Jedraszewski as his successor this week.

 Jedraszewski was born Feb. 24, 1949, in Poznan. In 1969 he began his studies in Philosophy and Theology and on May 24, 1973, he was ordained as a priest for his archdiocese.

 Throughout 1973-1975, he became parochial vicar in Wilkanow and Odolanow, still continuing his Philosophy studies through the Gregorian Pontificial University, gaining a degree.

 Between 1980-1987, he became Prefect of discipline in the Major Seminary of Poznan, then gaining the role of Episcopal Vicar for Social Communities in 1997.

 On May 17, 1997, Jedraszewski was nominated Auxiliary Bishop of Poznan, receiving episcopal ordination the next June 29.

 Since 2012, he has been Metropolitan Archbishop of Lódź and Vice-President of the Polish Episcopal Conference, Permanent Council Member CEP, Member of the Commission for Catholic Education and Member of the Section of Philosophical Science within the Commission of the Faith.
