Peace agreement signed for 'future of Libya'

The peace agreement was signed by representatives from Misrata and Zintan

ROME – The first steps towards reconciliation following the long crisis between Misrata and Zintan were made this week as representatives from the two Libyan cities signed a joint peace agreement, supported by the Rome-based religious community of Sant’Egidio, “to make important steps forward in the stabilisation of the country.”

Zintan and Misrata representatives met in the Eternal City for a peaceful discussion, resulting in the signing of an agreement regarding humanitarian issues such as the refugee crisis and victims of conflict.

At the heart of the discussion was the possibility of peace and stability for Tripolitania, and Sant’Egidio have pledged their support for the peace process, expressing their satisfaction with the latest step made in the right direction for the future of Libya.
