Berlusconi steps closer in maintenance payments appeal

ROME -- The public prosecutor of the Supreme Court of Cassation has made steps in favour of Silvio Berlusconi’s appeal against the two million euros a month he was required to pay following the separation of his marriage to Veronica Lario.
In 2014, the Court of Appeals of Milan reduced the number by one million euros, yet, according to the Deputy Attorney Francesca Cerioni, the reduced figure is still excessive and she is to accept Berlusconi’s decision to appeal.
The proposal for a maximum ‘threshold’ on maintenance payments is being considered in all cases regarding excessive wealth and large investments. On the other hand, the request to send the Constitutional Court regulations for the settling of limits regarding alimony has been rejected.
The decision of the Supreme Court shall be confirmed within a month.
