Ferrara festival celebrates bold investigative journalism

Ferrara -- The journalism festival of the weekly newspaper ‘Internazionale’, will open Friday Sept. 30 with parents of Giulio Regeni, the Italian researcher killed in Cairo Jan. 2016, as special guests, the newspaper said Wednesday.
The weekly newspaper, edited by Giovanni De Mauro, is made up of hand-picked articles from international press sources translated into Italian.
‘Internazionale’ will hold a weekend festival for journalists from Sept. 30 to Oct. 2 in Ferrara, hosting about 250 guests from 31 countries.
Parents of Giulio Regeni, the murdered Cambridge University Researcher from Italy, Paola Deffendi and Claudio Regeni, will attend the festival to personally award the Egyptian journalist and activist, Hossam Baghat, the prize for investigative journalism dedicated to the famous Russian journalist, Anna Politkovskaja.
The prize, which has now reached its eighth issue, was born out of a collaboration with ‘Internazionale’ and the Commune of Ferrara with the national ARCI foundation for culture and development. It supports the commitment and courage of young reporters that have distinguished themselves around the world for their research.
The prize-giving will take place Sept. 30 at the Apollo Cinema, following which, a discussion will be given by Paola Deffendi and Claugio Regeni, together with the Egyptian journalist Lina Attallah, and Luigi Manconi, entitled “The whole truth. Repression, forced disappearance and torture. Egypt five years after the Arab Spring.”
