An Austrian woodland in Rome

The Austrian woodland capsule in Rome

ROME - From Sept. 8 - 11, 2016 the Austrian Tourism Board installed in the capital’s San Silvestro square, ‘airship,’ a Travelling Cultural Woodland designed in collaboration with the group breathe.earth.collective, already co-authors of the successful project ‘Breathe.Austria,’ the Austrian pavilion at Expo Milano 2015 of team.breathe.austria.

‘Airship’ is a unique microclimate space and breathing room, which is a new temporary mobile type of "urban green space", a place where you can relax and ‘switch off’ for a few minutes. It is hybrid unit of wooded vegetation and contemporary design, that gives life to nature and culture with all senses of perception.

“The ‘Travelling Cultural Woodland’ innovatively combines nature and culture, awakening the curiosity to spend a holiday in Austria," said Michael Strasser, the Region Manager of Austrian Tourism in Italy, describing the project. "Within the Woods visitors could sit on wooden benches, breathe the fresh air of the woods and find a bit of calm, disconnecting from the hectic city life.

Austria's culture, by virtue of its 50 percent forest composition, is closely related to and naturally influenced by this environmental heritage. The travelling cultural woodland goes beyond just an design and technology project -- it is able to tell stories, to create links between nature and culture and it provokes dialogue.

After stopping off in Milan and Padua, then spending four days in Italian capital, the forest capsule attracted more than 4,000 visitors who were able to breathe, even if only for a few minutes, the mountain air of the Austrian forests.
