‘Italy would leave the Euro’ if M5S were in government

ROME — The Five Star Movement (M5S) reiterated on Tuesday that Italy would leave the European single currency if the opposition party were to form a national government, according to its chief representative at the Senate Nicola Morra.
Morra said: “If, at this moment in time, we (Five Star Movement) were in government, we would leave the Euro, because the single currency has negative repercussions on poor and weak nations alike and, let us be honest, that’s what we are.”
The M5S has said before that Italy would leave the Euro if it took office but the remarks by Morra had added impact in the wake of the Brexit vote in the UK and the prospect that Prime Minister Matteo Renzi might lose the referendum on constitutional reform later this year, heralding a government crisis and possible early elections in 2017.
