Cargo plane overshoots, crash lands on road

 BERGAMO -- A Boeing 737 cargo aircraft belonging to DHL couriers, has crash landed on a road by Bergamo airport, Olio al Serio, after overshooting the runway due to bad weather Friday,  airport officials said. Nobody was hurt.

 Reportedly because of bad weather and poor visibility, the jet missed the runway and crash landed on the road which connects Bergamo and Codogno. As the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera reports, the flight from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport landed at 4.07 a.m. on Friday and the airport was closed immediately after the crash until it started running again at 6.47 a.m. 

  The Italian air regulator, the National Agency for Civil Aviation, has said that several flights have been rescheduled or rerouted to through Milan’s Malpensa airport as a result of the accident.

 Pictures of the crash show the aircraft wedged onto the road at the end of the runway.

 According to the Messaggero, eight fire service seams from Bergamo are working to secure the area of the crash and are in the process of trying to move the aircraft from the road.

 The Italian flight safety board, ANSV, has opened an inquiry into the reasons for the crash, and has sent an investigatory team to the Olio al Serio airport.
