Community of Sant'Egidio shows support for Nice victims

ROME -- The Christian community of Sant’Egidio is of one of many to add its voice to the growing support for the people of France, following a lorry attack in Nice in which 84 are said to have been killed. “The death of so many innocent people, including many children, makes it our duty as human beings to take a moment to show our solidarity, our closeness, and our devotion in memory of those who have lost their lives to a doctrine of violence without justification.”
Faced with the ever-increasing presence of terrorist activity in Europe, the community says it feels the need to “intensify its effort to defend the life of the innocent and the weak.” The community adds: “In particular, we feel we must put a stop to all the wars which, throughout the Middle East and Africa, are at the heart of conflict and tension that can no longer be considered as localised and distant."
