ROME --  Qatar airlines has entered into a shareholders and contribution deal with Alisarda, the parent company of Italian airline Meridiana fly. The agreement was made during the Farnborough Air Show 2016 and means that Qatar airlines will purchase 49 percent of Meridiana’s shares, if all the conditions are fulfilled by the scheduled closing of the agreement in October.

 “Qatar Airways continues to expand its global business opportunities, increasing travel options for our passengers while also enhancing our investment portfolio. This agreement sets the path to advance our work towards a strong resolution that benefits both the staff and passengers who travel with Meridiana fly,” said Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, Mr. Akbar Al Baker.

 Meridiana fly, the second biggest carrier nationwide, operates on an extensive level both in Italy and throughout Europe. It connects the main Italian airports with Sardinia as well as important European destinations, and also provides links with the United States of America and Africa. Its fleet includes the aircrafts Boeing 737s, 767s and MD-82s.

 Qatar airways, Meridiana fly’s most recent partner, is the national state airline for Qatar, and is one of the fastest developing air companies worldwide, as well as having one of the most modern fleets. It flies to over 150 top business and leisure destinations which span across six continents.
